So I had a dream that I got on a bus and then the bus drive got up while the bus was driving to yell at me personally and then the bus drove around for like five hours and eventually when it finally got to something I recognized it wouldn't stop and then it turned around and kept going away from my house and nobody would listen to me and I cried and then I woke up.

Also sorry it took me like two weeks to get around to posting this but that's what happens when I'm me.

( This one's a two-parter so strap in kids... )

And there we have it; a complete meal for two and all it took was like an entire day of cooking and about five different pans.

Some notes:
- If your sauce separates when you put it in the pan, try taking the pan off the heat for a couple minutes first, or heat the sauce up gently in a saucepan or in the microwave before adding to the meat.
- If you don't like fennel (it's a pretty hefty flavour) or you like things a bit more punchy, you can use a teaspoon or two of smoked paprika and/or some chili flakes to get something that's a bit closer to chorizo.
- Goes real well with fresh OJ or a nice fruity white wine not that anyone I know actually drinks wine.

It's unlikely I'll be linking many recipes because all of the things I cook tend to be 1) heavily modified from the source and 2) those really annoyingly long recipe pages that you have to scroll through like a billion pages of ads to get to. Besides which, the first lesson to learn when reproducing any recipe is that you'll always need to make adjustments.

So this is just me officially declaring that I want more magical girl anime like this shit.

I mean one of the heroines just has a fuckload of guns, how can you not love that?

I can best describe this as "trashy edgy bullshit and Kamen Rider and Macross all tossed in a blender" and the end result is something that fluctuates between stupidly awesome and awesomely stupid. And occasionally adorable.

Also gay.
Like real gay.
Like "this is just a lesbian harem anime disguised as a super sentai show" gay.

Thank you to this glorious nerd for convincing me to watch this. You should too. It's got an angry black-and-red-OC magical girl who named all her attacks after heavy metal.

What really surprised me with this isn't that it took ages.
What surprised me is that I bought and started this game in August, put it aside for four months, and then actually came back to it and even finished it.

As someone who didn't grow up playing this series, I don't have much to say in the nostalgia department. I will say, however, that the game manages real well to capture a sort of quiet melancholy, even wistful at times. Like the game just stops every now and then to reminisce about years gone by.

As someone who is no longer a child, I can definitely say that strikes a pretty effective chord.

The core gameplay is really solid and very satisfying. They've managed to take a few very strong elements in the exploration and the combat mechanics, and just keep juggling it all comfortably. There's also a lot of freedom in how you approach the game, and it fluctuates pretty far between often not holding your hand at all or occasionally just pointing you exactly where you need to go. When the game wants you to go find things, it lets you handle it. When it wants you to get through a couple more steps in the main quest, it'll all but teleport you automatically just so you're not wasting your time.

I will say that the game starts off hard and gets gradually easier, though. And not everything feels adequately balanced. At the start, I was infuriated by my lack of inventory space and how quickly all my shields kept exploding. By the end, I had thirty fucking Royal Shields I didn't need and then the game just straight up GIVES you a nigh-unbreakable, ridiculously overpowered super shield as well.

Also yeah that final final boss is kind of an anti-climax but the first half is pretty fucking rad so I'm okay.

All in all, solid game.

So much for having a livable bedroom by the end of the year. DIY is hard when you're short on funds.

On the bright side, 2019 is set to start off with two films I'm really super excited to see, Galaxy Trail posted a big fat update on how Freedom Planet 2 is coming along, I got some future-proofing done for my PC so now I can play games from two years ago, and I got a little more confident with cooking a slightly larger variety of things to eat.

On the flip side of all of that, I feel like I've been forgetting more recently. Losing interest in things I enjoy. Being unable to actually see anything through to the end. Waking up with a headache seems to be more common these days, too.

I suppose such things are to be expected when your diet is crap and you don't get enough exercise.

All I can do from here is try. I encourage you to try, too.

When is this beautiful shiny utopian future I was promised in the 90s going to fucking get here already I'm still waiting.

Aside from that, I just hope I can be more of a positive influence around other people for the next trip.

I have been playing Ultra Sun. I am not yet finished playing Ultra Sun. Here I stand, on the top of a giant snowy mountain, ready to go beat up the Elite Four. And then do whatever else there is waiting for me, I have no idea how much postgame this gen has. I won't be talking about anything particularly spoilery, just nerding out about my team a lot.

I Finished Ever Oasis

Well, technically I didn't actually complete the game. There are still several villagers to collect, a bunch more shops to max out, some more sidequests to do.

Unfortunately, the end of the game just kinda... isn't nearly as much fun as the rest of it, so I'm not going to do any of that stuff. Also that ending soured me a bit towards this whole business.

Conceptually, yes, it's a very good moral conclusion, and the game undercuts the tragedy of the situation with an unbridled sense of optimism. The heroic sacrifice to rid the world of evil once and for all is a theme I'm certainly not again, and one I distinctly remember being in some indie game or something. Unfortunately, I'm really not in the mood for heroic sacrifices right now. Especially when it's sacrificing the most uplifting part of the game, for me.

Generally, Ever Oasis has some weird issue going on. The pacing is pretty healthy but starts going into fast-forward near the end. The 'labyrinth' dungeons are kinda not important except they are but they aren't. They're also not very well designed. Overall, the game feels like they managed to get about two thirds of the way finished, then ran out of time to put together the 'post-game' content, including making the labyrinths, so they just had to cram in the placeholders instead and ship it.

Which is a shame, because barring just a couple puzzles here and there that were utter flops, the game is really good.

All things considered, the game sits well up among the higher end of personal enjoyment. Solid B.

Replayability factor, unfortunately, is significantly hampered by the aforementioned issues. I might continue, some day, but I'm not really confident about that. From 0-9, I would give this a tentative 3.

As for objective game quality, general put-together-well-ed-ness and accessibility of design, that sort of thing, overall very good, but dragged down slightly by the above flaws. II Could have been a I but them damn labyrinths.
